Neelira

Neelira is set in 1988 Jaffna, where a Sri Lankan Tamil family is preparing for their daughter Vasuki's wedding.  On the eve of the ceremony, a group of Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) soldiers, led by a Captain played by Chandra, accidentally occupy the family’s home due to a navigational error.  Stranded and surrounded by militants, the soldiers hold the family hostage overnight, creating a claustrophobic chamber drama that explores the human cost of war and the survival instincts of civilians caught in the crossfire.

Critics praised the film for its realistic portrayal of the conflict’s impact on ordinary people, highlighting Someetharan’s authentic direction and the ensemble cast’s performances.  The movie, which runs for approximately 92 minutes, is noted for its tight, tense narrative that avoids glorifying violence, instead focusing on the psychological and emotional toll on the Eelam Tamil community.
